๐Ÿ’œ Career Well-being: Delete these "Legacy Skills"

Dear Thriving Introvert! In this newsletter, I'll cover:

  • Rank higher on LinkedIn Recruiter searchers (without posting daily)
  • Stop treating LinkedIn like social media.
  • Feeling stuck in the corporate noise? Try this quiet strategy.

With AI flooding everywhere, companies are finding ways to run leaner teams, which means cutting staff and investing more in technology. I know this isn't fair, and many people are currently looking for another job. I hear you! I see you!

But how do you find ways to stay relevant when so much seems to be coming at you all at once? One thing that could help is looking into your skills.

Have you heard of skills-based hiring? It is when a hiring manager prioritizes a candidate's actual abilities, competencies, and practical skills over traditional credentials like degrees, job titles, or years of experience.

This approach uses assessments, simulations, and structured interviews to identify qualified talent, leading to better job performance, increased diversity, and faster hiring cycles.

LinkedIn Recruiter ranks skills as one of the ways to filter candidates in a recruiter's search. When was the last time you updated your skills section? This week, I want to help you improve your skills section and rank higher. Let's go!

๐Ÿ’ก Rank higher on LinkedIn Recruiter searchers (without posting daily)

For many introverted leaders, the idea of "optimizing" a profile feels like an invitation to join a loud, crowded room where everyone is shouting for attention.

You don't want to play the algorithm's games, and frankly, youโ€™d rather your work speak for itself.

But here is the reality of the digital job search: If you aren't using the right keywords, your work isn't speaking at all. It is invisible.

LinkedIn has quietly evolved into the era of "Skills-Based Hiring." High-level leadership roles aren't filled by recruiters scrolling their home feeds; they are filled using LinkedIn Recruiter, a specialized search engine.

When a recruiter looks for a "Director of Operations," they use a "Skills & Assessments" filter. This filter is binary. If they search for "Change Management" and that term isn't in your Skills section, you may not appear in their resultsโ€”regardless of your actual experience.

Recently, LinkedIn expanded the capacity of the Skills section to 100. This is your technical opportunity to ensure recruiters find you. Here are two ways to start:

  • The "Top 2" Hack: When a recruiter lands on your profile, LinkedIn only displays your top 2 skills by default. Stop leaving this to chance! Don't let "Microsoft Office" sit at the top. Reorder your list so your two most impactful, high-level skills (e.g., "Strategic Planning" and "Cross-functional Leadership") are the first things they see.
  • Delete "Legacy Skills": Keeping outdated skills (like "Data Entry" from ten years ago) dilutes your brand and confuses the algorithm. Delete them today.

But how do you find the exact skills recruiters are searching for? And how do you map those skills across your entire profile, not just the skills section?

Inside, you will find:

  • Why you should aim for the 60-70+ skill "sweet spot" to bridge your past, present, and future.
  • How to tag skills in your Experience section without cluttering your profile.
  • A simple method for finding the exact phrases your target companies are using.
  • A list of high-impact keywords categorized for Directors and Managers.

You don't need to be the loudest person in the feed. You just need to be the most "findable" person in the database.

๐Ÿ’ป Stop treating LinkedIn like social media.

If you missed last week's article, I discussed LinkedIn Positioning for Leaders: How to Attract Executive Recruiters Without Posting Daily. For many introverted leaders, "personal branding" feels like a distraction. You have a team to lead; you don't have time to be a content creator. If your profile is optimized for that search engine, you can attract opportunities while you sleep. This article can help you figure out how to position yourself.

๐Ÿ’œ Feeling stuck in the corporate noise? Try this quiet strategy.

For many of us, career planning feels exhausting. The hustle, the politics, the pressure to "climb" faster.

But what if you could map out your next move without the noise?

A Career Vision Board allows you to quietly reflect on your values, boundaries, and goals before you act.

And it's not something you can only do at the beginning of the year. I just updated my vision board because the goal I was pursuing needed to shift slightly.

You can create or refine your vision board at any time. Why not this weekend?

โ€‹Inside the article, youโ€™ll find:

  • The 6 Questions to ask yourself before you start (e.g., What does your ideal Tuesday look like?).
  • 5 Specific Board Examples tailored for introverts (including the "Boundaries Board" and the "Legacy Board").
  • Why "Boundaries" deserve a spot on your board just as much as a promotion does.

Do you have a career or job search question? Please reply to this message and ask away.
